Sending a copy of your livejournal posts and comments to dreamwidth
People are getting edgy about livejournal again. The staff for the English language version is very small, and they're planning on doing something which looks to be very unpopular.

How to import your livejournal to dreamwidth. The queue wasn't very long-- when I checked after some hours, the import had happened.

I'm not completely delighted with the results-- since I'd been crossposting my articles, my recent articles/archive is now very cluttered up. On the other hand, my comments are saved-- almost all of them come from livejournal. Perhaps I should have used insanejournal or deadjournal for an archive.

LJBook wants my password. That's a deal-killer. A password shouldn't be necessary if I only want public posts preserved.

Some people deal with that by briefly changing their password for the LJBook process, then changing it back. Or do you think it shows that LJBook is untrustworthy?

I don't trust any site that asks for my password. You may remember one site that was supposed to provide some kind of service for LJ users and publicly reposted comments from private posts. Even if I changed my password, LJBook would have all my private content.

I wonder how hard it is to write a homebrew app that uses the LJ API to dump a journal. The last I checked, there wasn't anything available for the Mac.

Thanks for the LJ-book link. I just backed up both my LJs.

If one has a windows machine, I instead recommend LJ-Archive as the go-to for backing up an LJ.
