Crossposting has been wonky for the past several days. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works, but it takes 10 minutes.

Good for him. He had the wherewithal to tough out the battle.

It reminded me of a time back in the '90s when my employer at the time received a large five-figure check by mistake from a company that screwed up and paid us money they owed someone else. Under the UCC provisions for negotiable instruments, we had a perfectly valid defense for keeping the money, and when they came calling a few months later, we paid them, having kept the money aside the whole time, because we're not stupid, and we knew any defense had a strong chance of being a Pyrrhic victory.

I never thought I'd compare the Russian legal system favorably to ours on any level, but there you go.
