Do you have a favorite news source?
I was talking with dcseain, and he mentioned that he checks The Washington Post regularly. I don't have any online news source I check regularly, unless you count Google News. I do listen to NPR and the BBC, so maybe it's just that I don't have an *online* news source.

Anyway, I was wondering about how much people feel as though they have a home news source or sources, and what those sources are. I seem to mostly follow links that other people offer.

Google News and the WaPo for me too. I get the dead tree version of the Capital Gazette (Annapolis paper), but by the time it arrives there's very little in it that's actually news.

Google News is also my default online. But from there, I am more likely to click through to sites I think more reliable, which include BBC, Al Jazeera & the Guardian for international. For local (to me) news, it's the big two: New Zealand Herald & stuff.co.nz

Several times a week I attempt to listen to Democracy Now, BBC, and Pacifica News. I have a radio in the kitchen and one in the car so it depends on where I am at the relevant times (I never think of online streaming though they are available). In addition, my livejournal is my RSS feed for Al Jazeera, Democracy Now, Calitics, Crooks and Liars, and Juan Cole. I admit I mostly skim headlines. I miss certain stories and I have to pick them up from osmosis. But I am very fond of livejournal as an rss feed. I used to have a BBC feed and I forget which US news outfit, but they ran both posted the same stories over and over several times an hour so it junked up my list without adding information, so I removed them.

I bounce around a lot of different online sources. I really dislike Google News, because half of what it lists isn't news reporting by any stretch, but keep coming back because it links to a lot of different sources and is useful for searches. For a source rather than an aggregator, I go with the New York Times more than anything else for national news.

My default online news source is the BBC website, but it usually needs supplementing.

I watch Eyewitness News (abc7ny.com) for the local stuff, France24 for Earth news, CBSN for Amerikan news. I read NYTimes.com, Torrstar.ca (The Toronto Star), the Guardian, Wred.com and Popular Mechanics for much of the rest. Guilty pleasure: France24.com at about 2A.M. when I'm up late anyway/. When I'm up all night and v. stoned, I watch in French.
