Life with people

Also, and this has been a very useful thing for me to realize, when you approach other people with the attitude that "okay, here's this thing I'm doing," most of them will just go "Oh, okay." Some fraction of them will either go "oh, that's so neat, I wish I could do that" or "oh, cool, can I help?"

I've got a somewhat more cynical take on this. People frequently don't have especially strong desires about a lot of things, and they may well go along with you if you know what you want.

I don't know if you believe in God/dess or not. I do. I don't believe Goddess put me on this earth simply to be decorative, or simply to try to please other people. I believe God put me on this earth to help with the work of making the world a little closer to the best of all possible worlds. Which means both that I have a lot on my plate and that I answer to an authority that is much higher than whether or not someone else thinks my ass looks fat in these jeans.

This is inspiring stuff--my attitude is closer to "It's good for me to make the world a slightly better place, and I'm not going to go along with people more than I've got to if they're being crazy."
