A little reductionism might be good for the heart

http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080113/full/news.2008.435.html

Scientists have washed the cells out of a rat heart, then reseeded the remaining connective tissue structure with heart cells from newborn rats. The resulting composite heart beats--only at 2% capacity, but that's still quite promising.

It's a long way from there to anything useful to humans, but this is a nice combination of Shiny! and Macabre!

News story thanks to the BBC.
