About Newsletters

I'm in the process of mailing out my nancybuttons newsletter, and it's straightforwardly factual.

Hi, all--there are some conventions coming up and a lot of new slogans.

The conventions are Darkover in Baltimore on Thanksgiving weekend
(http://www.darkovercon.com), Philcon in Philadelphia on December 9-11
(http://www.philcon.org/2005/), and Arisia in Boston on January 13-15
(http://2006.arisia.org).

Here are just a few of the new slogans:

If you return those books, we won't tell the FBI you borrowed them

What would the Flying Spaghetti Monster do?

I tried serial monogamy, but it was too soggy with milk

Support the separation of church and hate

Give up on pessimism. It doesn't work anyway.

ASCII to ASCII, DOS to DOS

Set phaser on wedgie

Whose trachea do I have to crush to get something done around here?

When I was young, we rolled our dice uphill, both ways, in the snow!

First they came for the verbs, and I said nothing because verbing
weirds language. Then they arrival for the nouns, and I speech nothing
because I no verbs.

The temperature of Hell is measured in degrees Calvin

Come to the Dark Side, we have cookies

They aren't on the website yet, but I have little (1" diameter) buttons.
Stock little buttons (see list) are $1 each. Custom little buttons are
$2.50 each (maximum of 7 words). Ask me about quantity discounts.

Some of you may get two or three copies of the newsletter because I have
multiple addresses for you--tell me if you prefer one of them.

It seems as though most of the newsletters I get are bouncy and cheerful. Is there an emotional tone you prefer from newsletters? Does the emotional tone seem to affect whether you buy what the newsletter is offering?

Also, I'm getting some bounces from the newsletters--I'm considering listing names of people who I don't have good email addresses for here, but I'm not sure whether that's appropriate. What do you think?
